タンポポ [Tampopo] (1985)

A couple watches a film where someone reads a book about some other people – and the movie starts to follow these people instead! After this playful though slightly confusing meta-level introduction, several clever and vaguely connected storylines interweave, all concerned with the miracles of eating. Of main interest is a motley collection determined to master the art of ramen…

Funny, unusual and endearing. In my book.

  1. One of my all-time favorite movies. I was introduced to this film by a friend and college roommate years ago, and have loved it passionately ever since. I watch it at least once every year.

  2. nicolas krizan says:

The director was previously unknown to me (which of course says a lot more about my ignorance than about the very distinguished mr Itami), I surely look forward to see more of his movies!
