backtrack; 東京物語 [Tokyo Story] (1953)

Differences between generations regarding what to focus your efforts on. Everyday troubles of maintaining a reasonable balance in life. And the somewhat bitter, resigned helplessness of growing older. Such seemingly unimportant and undramatic subject matter is what drives the quiet, beautiful and very calm story onwards.

Character-oriented and contemplative, this might look trivial at first sight but is also universally recognizable. Maybe in my book, the fine line between »subdued« and »plain boring« can sometimes be a bit too thin.
