Ostře sledované vlaky (1966)

»Whenever I’m trying to prove that I’m a man, I no longer am«

A whimsically detailed WW2 social study, chronicling the absurd and railway-related »working« life of the youngest member of a family focused on doing as little as possible in life. The silent, unexperienced apprentice nervously tries to find his place – and manhood – in this slow and strange microcosm of growing nazi oppression, recurring cruelty to animals, erotically overcharged women and pathetic men.

Mixing slow, playful comedy with moments of tragedy both personal and political. In my book of male fantasies.
