The lady from Shanghai (1948)

Convoluted, desperate, mannered. Immortal lines, shady characters, sweaty obsession, impossible mismatches, dense atmosphere. An implausible, twisted, and intriguing noir with almost tangible tension – wallowing in unnatural, illogic and downright offensive behaviour. No escape for the wicked in the spectacular end, which verges on parody!

In my book.
