Meet me in St Louis (1944)

Possibly the grandest bagatelle ever produced! No surprises whatsoever, zilch real conflicts, wafer-thin story, ghastly costumes – all accompanied by a soundtrack including a jazzed up »Skip to my Lou«! In a world where the only serious problem is getting the right guy to propose, this one still manages to create characters with far more depth than expected. And Judy Garland is lovelier than ever.

In my feelgood book.

  1. I haven’t got around to seeing this yet, but it was always one of my mother’s favorite movies. Goes in my book just for that reason.

That’s reason enough!I normally have a habit of not liking classical musicals very much, but this one somehow stole my heart despite the abundance of ridiculousness.
