The masque of the red death (1964)

»Through the cruel light to the velvet darkness«

Blasphemic in the eyes of authentic Poe aficionados – but what titles, what intro, what looks! A very campy tale of faith, power, and innocence versus knowledge.

Lacking severely in substance and motivation as well as credibility, this quickly wears thin, though. Loose-dangling plot threads, unspectacular execution, bad acting, and a corny »medieval sixties« look that doesn’t exactly help. Not in my book.
