Sergeant York (1941)

»Your God or your country?«

Righteous, patriotic, and sentimental – this sanitized biopic uses plenty of clichés while taking on topics such as duty, conscience, and religion. Plus it's awfully staged when depicting honest-to-god simple folks with hilarious hillbilly dialects.

Unusually nuanced conscientious objector theme, unconvincing battle scenes, ultimately not in my hick flick book.
