The cool world (1964)
Chaotic and caleidoscopic slices of black urban America. Hand-held, improvised, documentary-looking, with intrusive score and jittery dialogue. Mainly concerned with the equal allure and horror of gang life, violence, and crime – nothing special contentwise, but doggedly alive in its obsessed focus on the immense possibilities of »a piece«.
Raw and fresh, though a bit amateurish and hard to follow. Maybe in my book.
