牯嶺街少年殺人事件 [A brighter summer day] (1991)

»I am like this world. It will never change.«

War and peace, shifting loyalties, sullen perseverance, insecurities transformed to cruel indifference. Street gangs, officials, and families wanders in a moral maze of rebellion and love where bad seeds sprout, grow, and finally bloom in terrible selfishness.

Too many characters, strange acting, oddly fascinating storytelling. In my uncertain book of sixties Taiwan.
