backtrack; Close encounters of the third kind (1977)

Hugely popular and influential in its time, this clever mix of the ordinary and the otherworldly left an indelible mark on my young soul.

In my Spielberg book.

  1. Bellis says:

Yes, but what do you think *now*?

  2. Sometimes it’s hard to separate the man from the boy 😉

The movie still works, I think, though it is too long and slow. The build-up is interesting while the ending is lacking (and more than a bit cheesy). This doesn’t bother me that much, however, since the whole thing has a sort of everyday feel to it. Which is really rather strange in itself, considering theme and story.
