De dødes tjern (1958)

»I must know what happens when darkness falls upon me«

An early norwegian example of the »cabin in the woods« horror trope. The build-up is classic; a disparate group of people bickers cosily on their way to isolation, and then… eerie forebodings, heightened tension, parapsychological bonds, spooky legends, a bottomless lake with dangerous undertow, rumours of evil spirits, doppelganger motifs, vulgarized psychoanalysis, forbidden love, gothic looks, haunting dreams, strange coincidences, false leads, déjà vu, sleepwalking, scary animals etc.

An interesting minor mystery marred by clumsy effects and anti-climactic ending. Hardly in my book of ghost storys.
