backtrack; Batman (1989)

The Caped Crusader is easily my favourite superhero because of his brooding borderline personality and ominous gothic horror appearance. Unfortunately, director Tim Burton’s version looks cockeyed, pointy-nosed, and extremely stiff in a thick, rubbery costume too big for actor Michael Keaton’s head.

Otherwise, the retro expressionist settings creates a moody backdrop for the usual stupid superheroics, complete with Jack Nicholson’s superbly silly Joker. Probably not in my book of comics.
