Whiplash (2014)

What do you really want to do with your life? How much are you willing to sacrifice? Is it worth it? Questions are asked, but no clear answers are given in this odd and contrived »musical« of sorts. A powerhouse performance by J. K. Simmons, who justly deserved the 35+ awards he received for his work.

A »Rocky« for jazz aficionados, kind of. In my book of music and control.

I agree on Simmons. His performance is magnificent. I hated this film, though. As a teacher, it puts out so many ideas that I cannot abide by.

… but the music is pretty awesome

  3. Jazz is definitely not my music of choice, so I neither understood nor appreciated it as much as I probably should have.
