Wikipedia has a page on »films considered the best«, and ca 25% of the mentioned titles has never been in any of the 1001 book editions – a rather high percentage, I’d say.

    I’ve seen a number of the non-included films and could make a pretty solid argument for a lot of them.

    Good luck getting films like My Neighbor Totoro, Persepolis, Frozen, The Wind Rises, The Incredibles, or Beauty and the Beast (the first animated film nominated for Best Picture!) included, though–the listmakers tend to hate animation.

    I’m holding out hope for Mad Max: Fury Road for the next edition.

  2. There are 16 entries under »Animation« in my edition. That may not be enough for buffs like you and me, but at least it’s more than what can be found under (for example) »Adult«, »Art«, or »Avant-garde« …

    I’ve seen four of the animated features you mention, and I liked them all. Not quite sure they would be in my book.

    I am also hoping for Mad Max to be included, though.
