Kærlighedens smerte (1992)

– I don’t want to be tied down. It’s too early.

It begins with childish innocence, cruelty, anxiety. Continues with precocious, seemingly well-behaved teenage life in a cosy middle-class idyl. Segues into a tale of one frail young woman’s troubled struggle with a fatal incapability of growing up. And finally returns for the inevitable, cold conclusion.

– It doesn’t matter. I’ll fail anyway.

Freedom, dependence, belonging, control. A study of psychology in theory and practice, unfolding almost like a tragic old broadside ballad. In my book, apart from the appallingly handled teacher-pupil relations.

– I’m no good at being loved.
