Pelle erobreren (1987)
»Stengården is not good for anyone. Everything turns into misery here.«
Out of the dense fog a ship emerges, from poverty-stricken Sweden to thriving Denmark. But illusion gives way to harsh and terrible reality, as life in the new country turns into a seemingly neverending chain of relentlessly cruel and brutal events. It’s painful to see the injustice, humiliation, degradation, and hardships of the wretched at the hands of both »øverheden« and each other.
Still, even among the slavery-like conditions there are hope against all hope, dreams of freedom and conquering the world. In my book of father-son relationships.
»We have to manage.«
