Η τιμή της αγάπης [The price of love] (1984)

»We can work hard. We need no one’s help.«

Love, wealth, family, society. A historical drama of rich and poor in Corfu during times of political instability. Here, young women are matters of trade, supposed to be married off with sizeable – or at least reasonable – dowries.

Convincingly produced, but far too slow and stuffy. Has its moments though, especially in the second half and right up until the bitter end. Maybe in my book of mothers, daughters, and the cursed thalers.

»I can work hard. I need no one.«
