The revenant (2015)
Leonardo DiCaprio finally earns his Oscar by proving he is as good an on-screen sufferer as Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, or indeed pretty much anyone. Otherwise, this is rather straightforward revenge fare – and very far removed from the factual events. Most surprising is, perhaps, the appallingly negative depiction of french-canadians.
Oldfashioned concept, contemporary treatment – unfortunately right down to being too lengthy. Only maybe in my book of impossibly dogged perseverance.
