Valkoiset ruusut (1943)

Infatuation, delusion, obsession – with overbearingly extreme emotional tension from the very beginning! Some close-ups of the female lead are almost worthy of Dreyer’s »La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc«.

Too bad that important parts of the plot are totally ludicrous. Not in my book of of long overdue silent age expressionist aesthetics.

P.S. Bonus knowledge: Both this and the far more famous »Letter from an unknown woman« are based on the same Stefan Zweig novella!
