– What’s the secret?
Very talky and heavily stylized, not even trying to hide its stage play origins. Crammed with struggle, illusions, lost chances, failures, disappointment, frustration, confusion, incoherent ramblings, and a long slow slippery slope towards a life of lies. And what about family – blessing or curse?
From self-aggrandizement and self-delusion over self-pity to self-contempt, even self-hatred. Dustin Hoffman revels in the mood swings of his character and works really hard, but doesn’t fully convince. Only maybe in my sad book of living (and dying) the dream.
