backtrack; Gladiator (2000)

gladiator

Honest, hardworking hero more or less single-handedly challenges an evil emperor against all odds. Say hello to The Oldfashioned Historical Epic, gently brushed up for the new millennium.

Not a very likely story, but one of the most impressive historical adventures of the last several decades. In my book of Roman revenge matinee movies.

  1. SJHoneywell says:

Too much shaky cam in the battle sequences, but it’s certainly an engaging story.

  2. I’m divided when it comes to shaking cameras. Sometimes they irritate me, sometimes I think they enhance the storytelling. A bit of both in this one, I suppose.
